Kodigaha Kanda Forest Sanctuary - 4.6 Km

Kodigahakanda is an 18 acre secondary scrub jungle on top of a granite hill rock, 378 feet above sea-level at its highest point. Kodigahakanda is the place where a flag was hoisted to mark the Colombo harbor as there were no Light Houses then. Now only the hole where the flag post was fixed can be seen. It is a ‘true forest experience’ for nature and adventure enthusiasts.

Pokunuvita Rajamaha Viharaya (Kithsisimewan Rajamaha Viharaya), Pokunuwita – 8 Km

The origin of this temple is believed to date back to the period of the King Kithsiri Mevan (301-328 AD) of Anuradhapura kingdom and is said to have gained prominence during the days of Raigam Bandara. The Temple buildings were beautifully placed at different levels on a rock cliff.

Veedagama Rajamaha Viharaya (Veedagama Maha Pirivena), Veediyagoda – 9.5 Km

According to The Mahavansa, this temple dates back to the period of King Parakramabahu IV (1302-1326 AD) of the Kurunegala Kingdom. By the time of the Kotte Period, this had become a flourishing educational centre where many oriental languages, medicine, astrology and oriental sciences and arts were taught. It produced eminent scholars, such as Ven. Maha Veedagama Thera, Ven. Veedagama Maha Maithree Thera and Ven. Totagamuwe Sri Rahula Thera.

Lenawara Rajamaha Viharaya, Tuttiripitiya – 15 Km

Historically, the Lenawara cave temple is associated with King Parakramabahu VI, during whose time it is believed to have been a flourishing temple. Lenawara Rajamaha Viharaya is one of the most picturesque temples in Sri Lanka as it positioned at the top of a natural rock. It can only be reached by climbing a long flight of steps.

Bodhinagala Bird Sanctuary, Ingiriya – 25 Km

This is a moderately small strip of secondary lowland rainforests in the area of Ingiriya. The forest reserve consists of two mountains which are surrounded by the villages. This reserve has being considered as one of the richest spots for bird watching and it is significant as one of the best sites for rare endemic birds of Sri Lanka.

Bodhinagala Aranya Senasanaya, Ingiriya – 25 Km

Bodhinagala Aranya Senasanaya is situated in the Dombagaskanda Forest Reservation whereas to the south east side of this beautiful forest area, flows the Kalu River and that slope is rich in herbal plants and wet zone plants inheritable to this area. There are about 20-25 monks meditating in the caves situated in this Aranya Senasana and the monks can be seen only during their lunch.

Hora Kale Forest Reservation, Kirigala – 26 Km

Situated at Kirigala area. It is said that Hora Kale Forest Reservation owns the largest number of Hora trees in South Asia.

Nachchimale Bathing Port, Ingiriya – 30 Km

The Nachchimale Bathing Port is a part of the Nambapana Lake. Beautiful waterfalls, stone holes filled with clear water are a common scene. Thousands of foreigners and local visitors come to visit Nachchimale to bathe and have fun.

Madakada Aranya Senasanaya, Ingiriya – 30 Km

In this Aranya Senasana there are about 15-20 meditative monks residing and there are about 12-15 meditation caves here. Situated in a natural forest reservation and a stream called ‘Nachchimale’ is flowing through one boundary of the monastery adding additional scenic beauty to the area

Pahiyangala (Fa-Hien Cave) – 38 Km

Pahiyangala is a huge rock about 300 feet in height. According to village legends; it gets it’s name after the famous Chinese traveler monk, Fa-Hein’s visit to the country in the 4th century A.D. He is said to have stayed in this cave whilst on his way to Sri Pada (Adam’s Peak). The cave is important for the Late Pleistocene human skeletal remains discovered there in the 1960s and 1980s. Radiocarbon dating indicated that the cave had been occupied from about 33,000 to 4,750 years ago.
